Pegcity Steppers commenced on January 5, 2020 with a group of young professionals wanting to stay active and encourage each other to keep it moving during the long cold winter months. The group was founded by Shana Goodridge and initially started out as a walking group with 4-5 members of various fitness levels. Many of the members are newcomers to Canada and not used to the cold winters, therefore this alone was a big step to venture out in the middle of winter.
However, as the group evolved so too did our ambitions and drive; as the fitness levels of the members improved we gradually began running. Today we have a group of 50 runners and walkers of varying pace and abilities.
We currently meet, once per week on Saturday mornings at 7:30 am in-front of Travel Manitoba (Spring -Fall) and in-front of Bindy's Resturant (In-doors during the Winter) at The Forks.
Pegcity Steppers is a community-based run/walk club that welcomes all fitness levels and paces to keep it moving in a safe and inclusive environment.
We are committed to improving physical fitness and overall well-being while motivating each other through, running, walking and general movement.
Our Mission is to encourage people who live a relatively sedentary lifestyle to lead a more healthy lifestyle and to increase the visibility of BIPOC runners/walkers in the community here in Winnipeg.
The group is by no means limited to only BIPOC runners/walkers, all are welcomed to JOIN!
