Our story
Start with your first step. Find your community.
Pegcity Steppers began with a simple idea — staying active while staying connected. What started with five people has grown into a vibrant community of 80+ runners and walkers of all paces, backgrounds, and abilities.
How it started
Our Story
Pegcity Steppers held its very first meetup on January 5, 2020, with just five people. What started as a small group of young professionals looking for ways to remain active during Winnipeg's long and challenging winter months quickly became something much bigger.
For many of the founding members, the group was about more than fitness. Several members were newcomers to Canada still adjusting to the harsh winter climate. Coming together as a group created motivation, accountability, and a sense of comfort.
As the group evolved, so did our ambitions. What began with five people has grown into a vibrant community of more than 80 runners and walkers. To further grow our reach and deepen our impact, we established ourselves as a not-for-profit organization.
Today, we continue to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment where individuals can improve their physical health, strengthen their mental wellness, and build lasting relationships through movement and community.

The people behind the movement
Meet the Team
Shana Goodridge
Founder / Run Leader
My run journey started over 10 years ago when I was first introduced to running by a group of workmates back in Barbados. I never considered myself a runner — I was always too intimidated to sign up for races. After my first official 5K I realized it was not just about what place you crossed the finish line, but more about the mental and physical journey. This changed my outlook on running forever. I wanted to create a community where people who feel intimidated have a safe space to challenge themselves and keep it moving.
Ijoema Osiegbu
Run Leader
I genuinely believe wellness and exercise have always been a part of my DNA. I come from a family where we always keep it moving. My favorite distance to run is 5km because it is a healthy balance of movement. My body needs at least 3 to 4 times a week to make me feel fit, in shape and healthy. I love to keep it moving because I know that health is wealth.
Natalya Petrekin
Run Leader
My fitness journey started over twenty years ago and cardiovascular activity has always been integral in achieving my goals. I hated running yet I always enjoyed the feeling at the end — I absolutely loved the camaraderie and the spirit of community that it brought. Being involved with Pegcity Steppers has created that sense of community that fosters long-term benefits which contribute positively to the development of our community.
